The left medial temporal region and schizophrenia: a PET study reports a positron emission tomography study on schizophrenic patients.

The schizophrenics are characterized by scores on Comprehensive Assessment of Symptoms and History (CASH). By factor analysis the CASH scores are grouped in three factors:

  1. Psychomotor poverty
  2. Disorganization syndrome
  3. Reality distortion

Apart from correlation with the psychopathology scores a canonical analysis with principal component analysis is also made.

The study was recorded in the original BrainMap database as paper number 102.

Databases:

Group 1 of 30 schizophrenics with 25 males and 5 females were included in the study. The British group had a mean age of 36.3 with a range from 21 to 54. The study on the human subjects was approved by the Local ethical committe and Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee.

[edit] Psychopathology score

Four coordinates are mentioned in the text on page 372.

The psychopathology score is the sum of three subsyndrome scores.

Further correlation with the psychopathology score is mentioned on page 373: "temporal lobe centred on superior and temporo-polar region and contiguous insula", but no Talairach coordinates are mentioned.

[edit] Negative correlation with psychopathology score

Negative correlation in the right insular cortex is mentioned in the text on page 373, but no Talairach coordinates are given.

[edit] Sum of canonical loadings

One coordinates in text on page 375 with the maximum region in the sum of the canonical vectors after a canonical analysis with the subsyndrome scores.
