A group of 28 volunteers were included in the study. The American group was from 19 up to 24 years old.

Experiment was performed on subjects with informed consent under the guidelines from the Washington University School of Medicine.

The authors write that the functional data were warped to "a standard stereotactic space" and reference the Talairach atlas, but does not mention the brain template nor the spatial normalization software (page 451).

The researchers state that they followed the procedure of Zacks et al. 2001[1] for identifying active brain regions, and this probably means that the statistical threshold is selected with Bonferroni correction. The threshold on the resulting image was set on a z-score of 4.5 (page 452). However, for this threshold they cite a McVoy abstract.[2]
