Hippocampus is a brain region in the medial temporal lobe.

MeSH regards the hippocampus (Mesh heading "hippocampus") together with subiculum and the dentate gyrus as part of the hippocampal formation ("The hippocampus, subiculum, and DENTATE GYRUS constitute the hippocampal formation.") but has the "hippocampal formation" as an entry under hippocampus,[1] and furthermore groups the dentate gyrus under "hippocampus".
