Beta suppression is an amplitude descrease in the beta-band of the electroencephalography

Beta suppression may occur during:

  • Finger movement and the motor hand area, - both pre- and postcentral. Maximum in the contralateral, but also some blocking the the ipsilateral side ("When the patient was asked to ,,clench your fist" there was a prompt but transient blocking of the beta rhythm from the motor hand area" and "Successive continuous movements of the fingers, such as touching the thumb to each finger in rapid succession produced a more continuous blocking of the precental beta rhythm. The activity from the post-central hand area showed a similar change.")[1]
