Behavioral Approach System (BAS) are self-report scales to assess one of the two general motivational systems proposed by J. A. Gray. The inventory is described in
- Charles S. Carver, Teri L. White (1994). "Behavioral inhibition, behavioral activation, and affective responses to impending reward and punishment: the BIS/BAS Scales". Journal of Personality and Social Psychology 67(2): 319-333. .
There are 3 subscales of BAS:
- Reward responsiveness, correlated with extraversion from a 1985 Eysenck scale, positive temperament from General Temperament Survey (GTS), positive affectivity from PANAS and reward dependence from TPQ.
- Drive, correlated with extraversion from a 1985 Eysenck scale, positive temperament from GTS, hypomania from MMPI
- Fun seeking, correlated with extraversion from a 1985 Eysenck scale, novelty seeking from TPQ, disinhibition-constraint in GTS, hypomania from MMPI
